Child, Family & Community Services, Inc. (CFCS), a non-profit headquartered in Union City, promoting school readiness for low-income children under 5 through education, health, nutrition, family involvement and other services, is seeking applicants to serve on the agency’s Board of Directors.

“We are looking for individuals who are passionate about the importance of quality in early education and providing positive outcomes for children, families, and society,” said CFCS Board President Robin Michel. “We especially need members with expertise in law, education and fiscal management or accounting.”

The Head Start Act mandates that the agency’s board is comprised of board members who have Expertise in Legal/Federal Law, Child Development/Head Start, and Fiscal/Budget. Potential members must be prepared to take an active role in ensuring the agency’s legal and ethical integrity, and maintaining accountability, as well as participate in advocacy and fundraising efforts. The Board does not manage the day-to-day operations.

“We want to grow our board in order to serve more children and families,” said Michel. “We are also interested in applicants with other skills, such as business administration, marketing, and community affairs.”

CFCS, headquartered in Union City, provides education and family support services to qualified low-income families and children with special needs living in Southern Alameda County. The agency provides Head Start and Early Head Start, California Child Care Alternative Payment Program and fee-based child care services, currently serving approximately 3,000 families each year throughout the south county areas, with centers in Fremont, Hayward, Newark, San Leandro, San Lorenzo and Union City. The agency also funds a Head Start/Early Head Start delegate agency, the Community Association for Preschool Education, Inc. (CAPE) that serves 163 Head Start and 50 Early Head Start children throughout the Tri-Valley area of Livermore, Pleasanton and Dublin.
